Three Reasons to Schedule a Wellness Visit

Some people hate visiting the doctor. They don’t want to admit that they’re sick or injured. They’d rather handle it on their own. While minor cuts, bruises, and sicknesses can often be handled at home, sometimes avoiding the doctor ends up costing you extra time and money when you do eventually have to go to the doctor. How can you know, though, when it’s time to schedule a wellness visit rather than handling it on your own?

Persists

Many people have had that cough, sneeze, or another symptom that just doesn’t want to go away. While feeling a bit off for a day or two is often not a big issue, if your symptoms persist or get worse, it’s likely time to schedule an appointment. If your symptoms are accompanied by a fever of 101 F or higher, it’s especially important to see a healthcare professional right away.

Sharing It

Many people have experienced that sickness that just keeps being passed around. Whether you’re passing it around your family, your workplace, or another place where you go often, if everyone seems to be getting it, it’s a good idea to schedule a wellness visit. If someone around you has gotten the flu or another highly contagious disease that requires medical help, do not wait to visit a healthcare professional if you start to experience the same symptoms.

Not Healing

Even minor cuts can become infected or otherwise cause other complications if left untreated. If it seems to be taking a while to heal or other symptoms, such as a fever, dizziness, swelling, or drainage, accompany the wound, be sure to schedule a wellness visit right away. If you are not sure if you’re up-to-date on your tetanus shots, it is also a good idea to visit a doctor as soon as possible. Of course, these are just a few reasons why you may need to schedule a wellness visit. When in doubt, it’s best to visit a doctor rather than trying to handle a sickness or injury on your own.
