Leading PHP/IOP Mental Health Programs Designed for Whole-Person Care
At Connections Wellness Group, we’re dedicated to offering a transformative treatment experience that sets us apart from other mental health care providers. Our accelerated therapy programs – a partial hospitalization program (PHP) and an intensive outpatient program (IOP) – provide a comprehensive, structured path to mental health recovery for both adolescents and adults.
As one of the only PHP/IOP curriculums in the country that is rooted in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), our programs are delivered through expert-led modules that focus on treating the whole person—mind, body and spirit. With in-person and virtual group therapy options, our therapists are trained in the latest evidence-based treatment modalities and concepts to provide effective, compassionate care that ensures every individual’s unique needs are addressed.

Our PHP/IOP Group Therapy Curriculum
Research shows that the quality of the relationship between a therapist and patient is one of the most impactful factors in successful therapy outcomes.
That’s why rather than only one primary therapist, CWG’s group therapy curriculum is delivered by a cohesive, multidisciplinary team of experts, including physicians, advanced practice providers (APP), registered nurses and licensed therapists. We believe our patients’ treatment is strengthened by their access to multiple voices and diverse perspectives.
Within our PHP/IOP group therapy programs, each facilitator focuses on specific areas that are essential for mental health through various modules and skills content.
The two main components of our curriculum include:
1. Guidance from a Group Therapist
Our highly trained group therapists lead open psychotherapy sessions, which focus on the following therapeutic modules:
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): As the foundation for our PHP/IOP curriculum, ACT is designed to help individuals embrace their thoughts and feelings without becoming overwhelmed by them. Backed by extensive research, ACT encourages patients to live in alignment with their values and manage distress, even in the face of life’s challenges.
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): This module helps patients identify and challenge negative thought patterns that influence emotions and behaviors. By addressing these patterns, CBT promotes healthier coping mechanisms and improved emotional well-being.
- Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT): Focused on mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance and interpersonal effectiveness, DBT helps patients develop the skills needed to navigate intense emotions and build more meaningful relationships.
2. Psychoeducation from a Registered Nurse
A registered nurse (RN) is present during group therapy to provide skills therapy on several key topics, ensuring that patients have a clear understanding of how their mental and physical health intersect. These sessions are also used for goal setting and discussing personal values. Some of the areas in which they support patients include:
- Diagnoses education: Understanding one’s own mental health diagnosis is significant in managing symptoms effectively, and our RNs can break down various mental health conditions and offer guidance on how to manage them.
- Medication education: Patients will learn about their prescribed medications, including how they work, potential side effects and the importance of adhering to their treatment plan.
- The brain and central nervous system: This module explores how the brain and nervous system influence mental health. The nursing sessions help patients understand the biological underpinnings of their conditions, as well as include grounding and mindfulness techniques.
- Nutrition: Nutrition plays a role in mental health, and our RNs help patients learn how to make personalized dietary choices that can impact mood, energy levels and overall well-being within an Intuitive Eating framework.
- Sleep: Good sleep hygiene is vital for mental health. These sessions teach patients how sleep impacts mental health and how to establish better sleep patterns and address sleep-related issues, such as insomnia.
- Movement: Physical and mental health are intertwined, and research shows physical activity is linked to improved mental health outcomes. This module emphasizes the importance of movement as a natural mood booster and stress reliever.
